Professions Training Program (PTP)

PTP Program Information

There are some important features regarding the program that the PTP staff wishes to bring to your attention.

  • All UCSC students in good academic standing are eligible to participate although only those with workstudy may participate in the Bonner Leaders program.
  • Recruitment is accomplished through many channels, including the Intern Connection and employment listing services managed by the Career Center, faculty and staff recommendations, emails to targeted students, and direct contact with students.
  • Students are screened and matched with professional level internships in their career field of interest.
  • Student compensation is equivelent to $8 to $12 per hour through one of two mechanisms:
  1. In internships in the nonprofit sector focused on human needs and tutoring, a wage of $8 per hour for 288 hours plus a $1000 Bonner AmeriCorp scholarship combine for the equivelent of $12 per hour. (Interns are not allowed to do fundraising according to AmeriCorp guidelines.)
  2. In the nonprofit sector not focused on human need, a wage of $8 per hour.
  3. In the for profit sector, a scholarship of $1000 to 1200 as a stipend for approximately 100 hours of work per quarter.

In many cases this will be a preview of a potential profession the intern is considering.

Nonprofit hosts are eligible for wage sharing and scholarships:
  • The Federal Work-Study program pays 50% of a student intern's wages.
  • Bonner AmeriCorp Scholarships provide a $1,000 bonus for students working 288 hours and participating in 40 hours of classroom instruction.

Both nonprofit and for profit organizations are eligable for the scholarship stipend arrangement.
